The 7th Annual Mosconi Cup was won this year by Team USA! This was USA team's first victory since 2006, with Team Europe winning the last three events.
Europe jumped out to a 4-0 lead, winning the first rack (Scotch Triples) and the first 3 racks of Scotch Doubles. Team USA won 2 of the final 3 doubles to close the gap to 5-2. The team captains then put together their lineups for singles, and a lot of great matchups were unveiled.
Team USA won the first 3 singles to even up the score at 5-5, with wins by Ray Greene, Masters champion J.R. Roofe, and Wilson Cruz. Team Europe jumped ahead 6-5, but then Team USA won the next 3 to take an 8-6 lead, including a great run by Jake Schwartz in Rack 12.
Steve Falconer won Rack 15 to cut USA's lead to 8-7. Gary Barsky put Team USA on the hill with a big win over Old Man Darcy. The final rack of the night put Pete Brennan against Team Europe co-captain Tim Edmonds. This was a classic safety battle as several balls were tied up on the foot rail, and both players waiting for their opportunity. Eventually Pete won on a great cut shot, shocking Team Europe and giving Team USA a 10-7 victory. |
